If you need assistance with today’s NYT Pips puzzles, you’re in the right spot. Below you’ll find strategies, complete solutions for each daily set, and a detailed walkthrough of the Hard puzzle.
Another day brings another Pips challenge. Grab your dominoes, Pipsqueaks, and let’s dive in.
How to Play Pips
In Pips, you work with a grid of multi‑colored cells, each representing a distinct condition you must satisfy. You have a limited set of dominoes to place on the grid, using every piece while meeting all conditions to win. The game features Easy, Medium, and Difficult levels.
Below is an example of a challenging‑tier Pips:

As shown, the grid displays various symbols and numbers within each colored section. On the far left, the three purple squares must contain different values (indicated by a crossed‑out equals sign). The adjacent pink squares must sum to zero. The zig‑zagging blue squares all require the same value. You rotate dominoes by clicking them, which is necessary to fit each piece into its proper spot.
Conditions not visible in this example include “less than” and “greater than.” When several tiles bear > or < symbols, their combined total must exceed or fall short of the indicated number, depending on the grid. Empty cells may hold any value. The full list of possible conditions is:
- = All pips in this group must be identical.
- ≠ All pips in this group must differ from each other.
- > The pip in this tile (or tiles) must exceed the given number.
- < The pip in this tile must be below the given number.
- An exact number (e.g., 6) The pip must match that value exactly.
- Tiles without conditions may contain any value.
To win, you must place all your dominoes on the grid while satisfying every condition. Occasionally the puzzle has a single solution; at other times, multiple solutions exist. Feel free to try today’s Pips puzzle yourself.

Hard Pips Walkthrough and Solution
Here is today’s Hard Pips:

Today’s Hard Pips features the letter “S” and its lowercase counterpart “s,” as seen in words like “simple,” “super,” or “sleepy.” This puzzle is remarkably straightforward compared with others; my approach focused on eliminating duplicate dominoes quickly, which is where I began.
Step 1
I observed that combining a 1/1 domino with a 6 yields eight, which satisfies the Pink 8 requirement. Using the 6/6 domino next allows pairing its five with the three from Purple 9 to reach Dark Blue 10. With many empty cells available, I placed the 5/0 domino into Orange 4.

Step 2
Next, position the 4/6 domino from Orange 4 into the Blue 6 slot, then move the 0/2 domino from Blue 6 to Purple 2. The 0/6 domino proceeds from Purple 2 to Pink 9, and the 3/3 domino goes from Pink 9 to the remaining empty cell. After using the final double, only three dominoes with distinct pip counts remain on the board.

Solution
Place the 3/1, 0/4, and 5/2 dominoes into the Green ≠ group in any order; the puzzle is then complete.
