Garmin has officially launched its latest generation of rugged smartwatches with the new Fenix 9 series, featuring significant improvements in display quality, performance tracking, and battery efficiency. The base model showcases an OLED display with a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, doubling the brightness of its predecessor. Priced starting at $999.99 for the 43mm case variant, the Fenix 9 boasts 50% more RAM and an upgraded map engine that delivers smoother navigation and faster map interactions.
The device also includes a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, expanded 64GB of internal storage, and advanced software features including Garmin Epic. This innovative tool compiles workout data across multiple days, weeks, or months to generate comprehensive “Epic” summaries that visualize health and performance trends over extended periods. Additional enhancements include new stamina tracking metrics and improved rucking capabilities that allow users to adjust their pack weight during training sessions. The Fenix 9 delivers up to 29 days of battery life in smartwatch mode when equipped with the largest 51mm case.
The Fenix 9 Pro model, starting at $1,099.99, builds upon these upgrades with a premium titanium case construction. All three size options (43mm, 47mm, and 51mm) can be configured with either InReach satellite connectivity or LTE capability for an additional $100 and a monthly subscription fee of $7.99. The largest Fenix 9 Pro variant introduces a 1.5-inch OLED display for the first time, offering slightly larger screen real estate compared to the 1.3-inch and 1.4-inch displays found in smaller models throughout the lineup.
For outdoor enthusiasts prioritizing renewable energy, the 47mm and 51mm Fenix 9 Pro models offer an optional solar-charging display that can extend battery life up to 57 days, contingent on spending approximately three hours daily in direct sunlight exposure under 50,000 lux lighting conditions.
The complete Fenix 9 collection is available in various case finishes and band color combinations. These new smartwatches will begin shipping on August 28th.
