Blake Monroe’s highly anticipated in-ring debut on WWE SmackDown took a dramatic turn last Friday, leading to a major update on her official main roster introduction.
After transitioning from AEW—where she competed under the name Mariah May—Monroe joined WWE and spent time developing her craft in NXT. Following her call-up to the main roster earlier this year, all eyes were set on her SmackDown debut match against the rising star Giulia.
However, the anticipated matchup was abruptly canceled when Monroe launched a brutal, pre-match assault on Giulia. Addressing her controversial actions in a passionate backstage promo, Monroe dismissed the cancellation as a mere formality, asserting her status as top-tier talent and issuing a direct challenge to interim WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green:
That’s not my debut. I didn’t wait four months getting called up to SmackDown, and I didn’t wait nine years to make it to the WWE to have my debut like that. I’m World Championship material. So you find Chelsea Green, you bring her to me, and then you get The Glamour. Until then, get out of my face.”
According to a recent report from False Finish, WWE officials have internally discussed scheduling a highly anticipated rematch between Monroe and Giulia for the upcoming Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6th. If finalized, this marquee matchup would serve as Monroe’s official main roster debut, bypassing the chaotic SmackDown segment.
Sources tell False Finish that Blake Monroe vs Giulia has been discussed for SNME. Nothing official as of yet. If confirmed, it would be Blake Monroe’s official main roster debut match pic.twitter.com/8v8UvnNn5I

Blake Monroe on her decision to jump ship from AEW to WWE
In an interview earlier this year, Blake Monroe opened up about her decision to leave AEW for WWE, highlighting the exceptional depth and strategic emphasis placed on the women’s division within the company:
Well, I mean, all jokes aside, I wouldn’t call myself a match of the year wrestler. I appreciate when people say that, but for me, I’m always like, what can I do better?”
And one of the big reasons I wanted to come to WWE was just because the women’s division is so deep. I just listed out how many different things you can do. And they really put an emphasis on their women. So, that was like a really attractive point for me.”
Monroe also shared her desire to further refine her skills and embrace a more disciplined training environment, which drew her to NXT:
But also NXT, I wanted to train more. And I knew there were areas that I’m naturally good at. So it wasn’t, you know, we had a little bit of a conversation about it, but no, we never had to sit down and be like, hey, you need to train or like humble yourself.”
As the wrestling world watches, it remains to be seen how Monroe’s aggressive heel persona will evolve on SmackDown and whether she will secure her spot at Sunday Night’s Main Event.
