Honda Makes History with Complete 2026 IndyCar Street Circuit Sweep

With Kyle Kirkwood’s victory at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington D.C., Honda’s engine program has cemented its dominance, securing a historic sweep of every street circuit race on the 2026 IndyCar calendar.

This triumph on the National Mall reinforces Honda’s decade-long legacy of engineering excellence, extending its streak of winning every debut street circuit event since multi-manufacturer competition returned in 2012.

During the 2026 season, Honda exerted near-total control over temporary circuits. Honda-powered entries captured five of six pole positions, with Chevrolet limited to Scott McLaughlin’s pole at St. Petersburg. Across all street races, Honda engines propelled drivers to 15 of 18 podium finishes and controlled 543 of 597 total laps—over 90% of the season’s street circuit action. In Washington D.C., Honda cars led all but three of the 147 laps.

The Washington D.C. victory marks Honda’s first full street-course season sweep since 2023, underscoring an era of unmatched temporary track performance. Since 2021, Honda has accumulated 23 wins in 29 street races. In 2026, its engine package demonstrated consistency across the customer base, with every Honda-powered team leading at least one lap and earning a podium on a street circuit.

These street circuit results have bolstered the full season standings. Reigning four-time champion Alex Palou, driving the #10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, has six wins and holds a 91-point lead over Kirkwood with three races remaining, positioning him for a fifth title. Honda also leads Chevrolet in the manufacturers’ championship, 1,316 points to 1,110.
