Trabzonspor have turned down head coach Fatih Tekke’s resignation, which he submitted in the wake of the club’s Europa League exit on Thursday night.
The Super Lig outfit fell to a 4‑0 loss against Ferencváros in Hungary on Thursday, resulting in a 5‑0 aggregate defeat in the play‑off tie.
In the aftermath, Tekke, who guided Trabzonspor to a third‑place league finish last season, offered his resignation.
However, the club turned down his request on Friday morning, stating that the 48‑year‑old’s decision was driven by the “intense emotional impact” of the Europa League defeat.
Trabzonspor will now take part in the Europa Conference League this term and are set to learn their six group‑stage opponents on Friday.
The seven‑time Turkish champions have been active in the transfer market this summer, snapping up Premier League winners Salah and Fabinho, while André Onana has returned to the club on loan from Manchester United.
The 34‑year‑old Salah shocked the football world last month by choosing Trabzonspor after mutually parting ways with Liverpool at the end of last season.
The Egypt international ranks as the third‑highest scorer in Liverpool’s history, with 257 goals in 442 matches since his 2017 move from Roma, trailing only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
