Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series remains a cornerstone of modern fantasy literature, celebrated by fans for its intricate world-building and epic scope. While adaptations have often struggled to match the depth of the source material—evident in the conclusion of the Prime Video series after three seasons—a promising new venture is on the horizon that could reinvigorate the franchise’s multimedia presence.
War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time, a grand strategy board game currently in development by Dire Wolf, emerged as a standout success on Kickstarter, surpassing its $50,000 goal by a wide margin to raise over $1.1 million. The game promises to bring Jordan’s saga to the tabletop, featuring “tableau building, action selection, and area control mechanics” as players navigate the clash between light and darkness across a land defined by magic and prophecy.

For backers, the Last Battle Bundle offers the premium “One Power Edition” alongside an upgrade pack, card sleeves, a neoprene playmat, and a signed art print of the Westlands map. The package also grants access to the Backerkit platform for early updates and customization. However, production is still in its early stages, with a tentative release date of June 2027. If it delivers even a fraction of the promise hinted at by its Kickstarter success, it may well become a defining board game release in the interim period before the next major television adaptation.
