Russian Drone Strike Triggers Warehouse Detonation Near Kyiv, Killing 37

At least 37 people were killed after a Russian drone strike on a warehouse in the Kyiv region caused a major detonation, according to officials who reported the incident on Saturday. The attack has prompted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to demand accountability for those responsible.

Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko, writing on the Telegram messaging app, confirmed that an additional 42 people were injured in the strike, while more than 380 residents were evacuated from the affected area in the Bucha district.

Although Tkachenko did not specify the nature of the target, President Zelensky indicated that the explosion occurred at a storage facility, resulting in substantial damage to surrounding infrastructure. The blast reportedly impacted residential buildings as well as a care facility for elderly residents.

“Those who allowed this to happen must be held accountable for their decisions,” Zelensky stated on X/Twitter, noting that criminal investigations have been launched on charges of official negligence.

“There are regulations in place — ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas. Appropriate conclusions will certainly be drawn,” the president added.

Governor Tkachenko cautioned that the death toll may continue to rise as recovery efforts proceed.

The Friday strike came at the end of two consecutive days of sustained drone activity targeting Kyiv and its surrounding areas, which had already caused damage to warehouses and residential properties and disrupted daily routines for local residents.
