Hundreds of Vessels Embark on Ceuta Solidarity Mission Amid Escalating Migration Crisis

A flotilla of around 50 vessels from the Costa del Sol and other Spanish ports set sail on Saturday for Ceuta to showcase their support for the city after the migration crisis that has intensified since the end of July, according to local reporting.

The operation, termed the Fleet of Solidarity with Ceuta, gathers approximately 120 contributors under the credo “We are all Ceuta – Spain responds as one.” Organisers have secured up to 60 complimentary bays in the municipal harbour to host the incoming craft.

Rather than forming a unified convoy, each captain departs from their home harbour and crosses the Strait of Gibraltar independently toward Ceuta, where participation in the weekend’s programme is slated.

The impetus behind this drive emerged after the overwhelming entry of migrants onto the peninsula on 30 and 31 July, when tens of thousands traversed illegal passages from Morocco, marking one of the most severe border pressures recorded in recent decades.

Upon arrival, stakeholders will partake in a curated walking tour of the metropolis followed by a dinner hosted at the Yacht Club; on Sunday, the fleet will conduct a navigation excursion around the bordering coastlines.

The ultimate objective is to convene vessels originating across mainland Spain and those already stationed in Ceuta in the southern bay, sending a clear symbol of cohesion betweenSpaniards divided by the Strait.

A weekend with no demonstrated events expected

Ceuta experiences an unusually tranquil close‑out to its public holiday stretch, with no new civil assemblies forecast for the coming days.

Prolonged unrest followed successive weekends of protests triggered by the sudden influx of thousands on 30 July, prompting intense citizen engagement.

The most recent agitation took place on Friday at Trampoline Beach, where hundreds assembled to demand the return of the migrants to Morocco and to evacuate the oversized camp adjacent to the Temporary Stay Center for Immigrants (CETI), which remains under heavy load.

While official monitors caution that incidents may arise at any hour, sources confirm that no further rallies are officially announced for this period; nevertheless, a demonstration is slated for 2 September, organized jointly by the Provincial Federation of Neighbourhood Associations and Foro Ceuta Siglo XXI.
