Hong Kong law enforcement has apprehended 321 individuals, which includes a 13-year-old, and confiscated approximately HK$130 million (US$16.5 million) in suspected illicit narcotics throughout a comprehensive seven-week operation.
Codenamed “Tailbacker,” the operation took place between July 12 and August 29, resulting in the discovery of 234 drug-related cases, authorities announced on Sunday.
The 321 suspects, ranging in age from 13 to 72, included 228 men, 65 women, and 28 minors. They face charges related to the manufacturing, possession, and trafficking of dangerous drugs, alongside operating a drug den and possessing Part 1 poisons, with several already formally charged.
The juvenile suspects consisted of 19 boys and nine girls, all under the age of 18.
Throughout the operation, officers confiscated 231kg (509 lbs) of suspected illicit drugs valued at HK$130 million. The haul included 76kg of cocaine, 65kg of ketamine, 3.7 liters of liquid etomidate, and 6,400 etomidate vape pods, along with heroin, cannabis, and methamphetamine.
Authorities highlighted a marked increase in etomidate seizures compared to similar operations conducted over the previous year.
