Kawa acknowledged the criticism surrounding the knockout but emphasized that several legendary fighters experienced defeats before building Hall of Fame-level careers. He said Steveson has the full support of his team and is expected to return to competition soon.
A return date has not yet been announced for Steveson, who received a 45-day medical suspension, including 30 days without contact, following the knockout. Sharaf is expected to be in line for a higher-profile opportunity after the upset victory, although his next opponent has not been confirmed.
