The eighth and final round of the third Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship unfolds at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi from October 16 to 18. Organized by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, this highly anticipated round will determine the Gi champions, with top finishers in the season’s overall Gi and No-Gi standings to be honored at the closing ceremony.
Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club currently leads the overall Gi rankings ahead of Al-Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club and Palms Sports – Team 777. With athletes spanning all age groups and weight categories accumulating points, the championship title remains fiercely contested, and every match result carries significant weight.
The competition schedule begins on Friday, October 16, featuring under-18, Adults, and Masters divisions for both men and women. Saturday’s agenda centers on the Kids’ categories, while Sunday sees competitors under 12, 14, and 16 years of age take the mats.
Fahad Ali Al-Shamsi, secretary-general of the federation, emphasized the final round’s significance: “The culmination of a full season’s hard work, consistent training, and careful preparation by clubs and academies reaches its peak here. The tightly contested title race underscores this dedication, with male and female athletes across all age groups contributing meaningfully to their teams’ points tallies.”
He noted the championship’s dual purpose: “It provides clubs and academies the opportunity to track progress and identify improvement areas, fostering preparation for higher-level competition and international representation. Additionally, it cultivates pride in club affiliation, uniting families, coaches, and staff in supporting athlete development beyond mere titles—driving talent growth and upholding the UAE’s jiu-jitsu excellence.”
Among the young talents to watch are Khaled Al-Kathiri (under-16, Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club), Alyazia Al-Shamsi (under-18, Al-Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club), and Zayed Ali Al-Teneiji (under-14, Palms Sports – Team 777).
Al-Kathiri stressed leadership: “In every match, I carry responsibility to my club and teammates. Consistent training, heeding my coach’s guidance, and family support have driven my progress. My goal is to help secure first place for my team this season.”
Al-Shamsi highlighted personal growth: “This championship has sharpened my skills and bolstered my confidence. My team, family, and coaches push me to perform at my best. I aim to conclude the season with my strongest performance yet.”
Al-Teneiji focused on iterative improvement: “After each round, I analyze my performance and refine techniques. This approach has elevated my game throughout the championship. I’m determined to earn points that propel the academy up the standings.”
