British far‑right activist Tommy Robinson stated that he was detained at Heathrow Airport on Saturday, during which his phone was confiscated, after a week of prolific online commentary on the recent racist and anti‑immigrant disturbances in Northern Ireland.

Robinson, whose legal name is Stephen Yaxley‑Lennon, posted on X that he was held on Saturday evening for approximately three hours under the Counter‑Terrorism and Border Security Act.

“My phone was seized by police,” he wrote on X, adding, “Please contribute to my legal defence fund.”

Robinson repeatedly tweeted last week about the violence that erupted in Belfast after a viral video depicted the brutal stabbing of a man who lost an eye in the attack. A Sudanese individual has been charged with attempted murder, and police have indicated the incident is not being treated as terrorism.

In the ensuing days, rioters attacked homes and businesses belonging to ethnic minorities and foreign residents, a British provincial minister described as racist thuggery.

Local politicians asserted that far‑right agitators online were instrumental in coordinating and promoting the violence.

A police spokesperson, without naming the individual, said officers detained a man in his 40s at Heathrow Airport on Saturday after his return to Britain from Russia via Turkey.

“The man was interviewed by officers, and his communication devices were seized before he was released,” the spokesperson added.
