Las Vegas Raiders fans have grown accustomed to seeing star edge rusher Maxx Crosby’s name surface in trade speculation, but according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the current rumors may not amount to much this time around.

Crosby’s name first gained significant trade attention in March when a potential deal with the Baltimore Ravens fell through due to concerns about his health. However, as the NFL trade deadline approaches, Schefter explained on “The Pat McAfee Show” that another trade involving Crosby faces significant obstacles.

“Maxx Crosby, the issue there is he means so much to that franchise,” Schefter said. “He was the one that was forcing the issue in the offseason; he was the one that wanted to be traded. Initially, the Raiders balked, and then they found two [first-round picks]. And I don’t think they’re getting that back now.”

Schefter emphasized Crosby’s value to the organization, noting that while he’s an “unbelievable player,” the Raiders aren’t likely to receive adequate compensation in return. With the team currently holding a 3-4 record and remaining competitive, he suggested that holding onto their franchise cornerstone makes the most sense.

“You don’t want to sell off the heart and soul of your team, the face of your franchise. You don’t want to do that. And I don’t know anybody would give up enough to make it happen… The trade talks surrounding Maxx Crosby have lost a little bit of steam,” Schefter concluded.

Schefter’s assessment aligns with the reality of Crosby’s importance to both the Raiders organization and their fan base. Trading away such a pivotal player during the season, particularly while the team maintains a respectable record, could spark significant backlash from supporters.

Fortunately for Raiders faithful, it appears that concerns about Crosby being moved before the trade deadline are unfounded, as the circumstances that previously fueled speculation no longer present viable opportunities for a blockbuster deal.
