The Boston Red Sox have launched a remarkable winning streak, yet the contribution of their newly acquired star remains to be realized.
Saturday finally offered the first glimpse of what Adley Rutschman, obtained from the Baltimore Orioles in a surprise trade before the deadline, can add to the lineup.
Rutschman has not played since July 18 due to left‑wrist inflammation, meaning his addition has not yet altered a roster already riding strong momentum.
He made a rehab start for Triple‑A Worcester, reporting that his wrist felt fine, stealing a base, recording a hit and throwing out a runner.
“I felt good,” Rutschman said, per MassLive’s Katie Morrison‑O’Day. “It was great to get back on the field and see how my wrist is responding.”
Reports suggest Rutschman could serve as the designated hitter for Worcester on Sunday, after which the Red Sox will decide whether he requires additional minor‑league time or will be summoned directly to the majors for a series in Toronto.
Having faced the Blue Jays frequently as a division rival, Rutschman brings valuable experience. In his absence, the team has been sharing catching duties between Connor Wong and Jake Rogers, whose combined efforts have helped sustain the recent turnaround.
