BERLIN — The nationalist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, designated a “right-wing extremist” organization by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency and widely criticized for xenophobic, antisemitic, and Islamophobic rhetoric, is seeking to consolidate its first regional government control as voters cast ballots Sunday in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt.
