It is reported that Rahmanullah Zadran is recovering from a leg injury. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan revealed last month that doctors had advised him to limit his workload in red‑ball cricket. He ignored that advice during last year’s Test against Zimbabwe, bowling 67 overs in a single innings and a total of 55 overs across both innings, which shocked his physician. The doctor warned, “No, you can’t do that to yourself.”
Afghanistan is not part of the World Test Championship, so Rashid has curtailed his participation in the format. Nevertheless, both he and Zadran are slated to feature in the three‑match ODI series against India that follows the Test.
Hashmatullah Shahidi will continue as captain of both the Test side, which faces India in New Chandigarh from 6‑10 June, and the ODI side, which plays three matches from 13‑20 June.
Afghanistan will meet India in Test cricket for only the second time. Their debut Test against India took place in June 2018, resulting in an innings‑and‑262‑run defeat. Since then, Afghanistan have recorded four victories in the subsequent ten Tests.
