Ai Ogura set for radiological scan to gauge San Marino GP return

Ai Ogura will have a radiological examination on Tuesday to evaluate a left‑thumb injury that required surgery on 27 August. The Japanese rider aims to be cleared for action at the San Marino Grand Prix.

Dr Xavier Mir’s medical team, which carried out the surgery, will join Ogura and Trackhouse officials for the assessment, determining if he can travel to Misano.

Currently fifth in the MotoGP championship with 203 points—53 behind leader Jorge Martín—Ogura seeks to resume racing after missing the Aragon Grand Prix.

After Silverstone, where a crash still allowed him to collect nine points in the sprint, Ogura travelled to Japan. He has re‑established his base there this season, having previously spent several years living in Spain.

While in Japan, Ogura crashed while motocross‑training. The injury went unexamined until his return to Europe, when doctors discovered a fracture that required surgery in Barcelona just before the Aragon Grand Prix.

He has been resting and rehabilitating since the operation, and will meet the surgeons at Barcelona’s Dexeus Clinic on Tuesday for a final clearance to travel to Misano.

If cleared to compete, Ogura will face a further medical check on Thursday with MotoGP Medical Director Dr Angel Charte, who will issue the final race‑clearance.

Trackhouse has listed Ogura on the provisional entry for the San Marino Grand Prix. Should he be deemed unfit, Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori will step in as replacement, mirroring the team’s approach at Aragon.

Ogura entered the summer break in second place, holding 194 points—just 14 behind factory Aprilia rider Martín. He opened the second half of the season with a sprint‑race podium at Silverstone, only to crash out of the main event.

Since that point, Ogura has fallen 53 points behind the championship leader and has been overtaken by Marc Márquez, Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio. A strong showing at Misano is vital if he is to stay in championship contention during his second MotoGP year.
