Alkaline Trio has announced the cancellation of their upcoming UK tour, which included a scheduled headline performance at the 2000trees festival.
The Chicago-based punk rock trio had planned to perform across multiple UK venues including Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, London, and Manchester, with a major appearance at this year’s 2000trees in Gloucestershire scheduled for July 9.
The tour was set to commence on July 3 in Birmingham, but all dates have now been called off. In a statement posted to social media, the band revealed that the cancellations stem from “medical issues” affecting frontman Matt Skiba, whose condition has reportedly deteriorated.
“We are immensely sorry, but we must cancel our dates in England,” the band explained in their message, “including tonight’s show in Birmingham, due to medical issues Matt has been suffering from that have worsened.”
The group added that Skiba “is going to be okay but needs to be treated stateside as soon as possible,” and promised fans “We will be back healthier and stronger.” Refunds will be available at the point of purchase for all affected shows.
The band’s most recent studio album, ‘Blood, Hair And Eyeballs‘, was released in 2024. In a previous interview, Skiba described the record as “apocalyptic,” explaining that it marked the longest gap between Alkaline Trio releases, during which the band aimed to deliver their strongest work yet.
Regarding the creative direction, Skiba noted, “It’s been the longest break Alkaline Trio has taken from putting out a new album, so I felt like we owed our fans the best record we could make.”
Dan Andriano added, “If we’re going to album 10, let’s make it fucking awesome. We wanted it to be different. We wanted it to be special. We didn’t see any point in making an Alkaline Trio record that we’ve already made. We want to move forward.”
The members also reflected on their enduring identity, stating, “No matter what we do, though, Alkaline Trio is going to seep in there. As hard as we try sometimes, we can’t escape ourselves.”
The band is currently scheduled to embark on a US tour with Rise Against in September, though it remains unclear whether this upcoming trek will be impacted by Skiba’s ongoing health concerns.
