ALULA — With cooler temperatures arriving, AlUla is inviting visitors and residents to explore a curated program of heritage experiences throughout November. The Royal Commission for AlUla has opened a new exhibition titled “An Ongoing Story,” running through December 5 at the Al-Jadidah Arts District. The showcase features 25 archaeological and heritage artifacts drawn from the commission’s collections, illuminating the region’s history and cultural legacy across thousands of years.
The exhibition was developed by 16 trainees participating in a collaborative program with SOAS University of London, supported by the British Council through the AlUla grants initiative. Working alongside the commission’s conservation and artifact-management specialists, the participants researched the objects, authored interpretive texts, and helped shape the display design.
Organized into four thematic sections, the exhibition guides visitors through AlUla’s past—from ancient stone tools and Dadanitic and Lihyanite inscriptions to coins, pottery, jewelry, books, photographs, and historical records that document the region’s evolution over the centuries.
For an aerial perspective, sunrise hot-air balloon flights offer passengers roughly one hour of drifting above AlUla’s mountains, valleys, palm groves, and the historic monuments at the Hegra archaeological site.
Balloon operations are led by specialized Saudi professionals, with Saudi and international pilots operating under the oversight of the Saudi Arabian Ballooning Federation. Together, these initiatives aim to safeguard local heritage, foster community engagement, and deepen public awareness of the region’s archaeological treasures.
