Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez has rejoined the team’s training sessions, ending a brief absence that had fueled transfer speculation.
Alvarez missed three group workouts late last week due to an “indisposition,” trained alone on Friday, and rejoined the squad for Sunday’s session. He was omitted from Saturday’s 3‑1 victory over Sevilla.
Atlético’s director of men’s professional football, Mateu Alemany, indicated the player is expected to recover quickly and be available for the next La Liga match. “The plan is crystal clear. Julian had a few days where he wasn’t feeling well. Yesterday he trained, and we hope he’ll be back in action quickly and be available for the next La Liga match. I’ve been speaking to him as normal,” Alemany said before the Sevilla game.
With the La Liga transfer window closing on Tuesday, the club’s leadership has reiterated its stance against selling Álvarez to Barcelona. Atlético’s CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín accused Barcelona of dishonesty and confirmed there will be no negotiations with the Catalan side.
In a formal statement, Atlético’s board emphasized that it remains open to standard transfer market negotiations conducted professionally and ethically, but stressed that Barcelona has failed to meet those requirements. The club’s position is clear: there will be no consideration of Álvarez’s transfer to Barcelona.
British media have identified Arsenal as a potential suitor should the Premier League club make a substantial offer, reportedly around €150 million ($174 million). Álvarez previously expressed his dream of playing for Barcelona during the World Cup.
