Amazing Red is set for his TNA Hall of Fame induction later this year.
During a recent interview on the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast, the TNA legend discussed his upcoming Hall of Fame induction, John Cena’s use of the ‘Code Red’ move, and the full story behind his 2005 WWE dark match against CM Punk.
Congratulations on the TNA Hall of Fame induction. “Yes, sir. Thank you.”
You appeared surprised. “Yeah, I didn’t know what was happening. Frankie told me to stay close. As soon as he grabbed the mic, I knew something was up.”
What did you think?
“I thought he might cut a promo. I was expecting a big mic moment, but TNA doesn’t work that way. When he started speaking, he said, ‘Pay attention to the monitor in the back.’ That’s when I realized they had me.”
Why didn’t you accept? “I’m not that kind of person. I focus on wrestling. Hall of Fame feels final, and I’m still active. I’m not ready to settle yet.”
John Cena uses Code Red. “It’s his move. I’d need his permission to use it.”
How did you create Code Red? “My younger brother inspired it. At 16, I’d powerbomb him, and he’d roll behind me. I called it the ‘baby powerbomb.’ It evolved into Code Red.”
What about the CM Punk dark match in 2005? “I don’t recall the setup. My memory’s fuzzy, but I know friends arranged it. It was a squash match against Matt Morgan, but they replaced him with CM Punk. I was nervous, and the match didn’t go well. Punk respected me, but I felt overlooked.”
Amazing Red will be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame on October 11, 2026, at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida.
