It’s been four years since Amazon acquired MGM for $8.5 billion, and the studio is now delivering blockbuster results. The standout title this year, Project Hail Mary, has grossed an estimated $684 million worldwide, becoming Amazon MGM Studios’ highest‑grossing release to date.
During Thursday’s quarterly earnings call, Jassy reported that Prime Video has achieved a revenue run‑rate in the “tens of billions of dollars” and is now profitable on its own. Earlier this year he had signaled profitability, and the new figures underscore the service’s rapid scaling. Amazon MGM Studios has contributed more than $1.2 billion in global box‑office sales so far, driven by hits such as Project Hail Mary and Verity. (The year also saw one notable misfire with Melania.)
Jassy highlighted a robust slate of scripted series, naming Carrie, The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Boys, Off Campus, Fallout and Reacher as recent successes. Season 4 of Reacher drew 66 million global viewers within its first 28 days, and the series has been renewed for a sixth season while season 5 is currently filming.
Sports programming continues to be a key growth area for Prime Video. The service streams NASCAR, the Masters, UEFA Champions League soccer and Thursday Night Football, whose first six contests averaged 17.7 million viewers—a 16 % increase from last year. The second season of NBA on Prime also attracted over 2 million viewers, according to Nielsen data shared by Amazon.
