Shrewsbury Town’s lengthy takeover process is nearing its conclusion after an American investment group received formal approval to purchase the League Two club.
The club confirmed on Monday that it had received written approval from both the Independent Football Regulator (IFR) and the English Football League (EFL) to proceed with the sale.
The identity of the new owner and principal investors will be disclosed by the club at a later date.
“Now that the regulatory requirements have been fulfilled and approved, we are focused on finalising the outstanding documentation and completing the takeover as swiftly as possible,” the club said in an official statement.
“The chairman remains fully committed to concluding the deal and ensuring a seamless transition.”
Salop chairman Roland Wycherley initially placed the club on the market in 2024, but a series of collapsed takeover bids prompted frustrated supporters to issue an open letter demanding clarity on the situation.
“Our comprehensive response to the open letter, received on Sunday, 6 September, will be issued following thorough consideration,” the statement continued.
“We are grateful to our supporters for their continued patience and will provide further updates as soon as circumstances permit.”
Further updates will follow.
