Anchorpoint Financial Limited, the Hong Kong joint venture between Standard Chartered Bank and Animoca Brands, has confirmed intentions to introduce a stablecoin tailored for retail consumers. This announcement follows the Phase 1 Beta Access rollout of the HKDAP (HKD At Par) stablecoin, which targeted institutional users in August.

The initiative follows Hong Kong market leader HSBC’s rollout of the RedCoin stablecoin to over 3.3 million PayMe users, a P2P digital wallet operating within the SAR. Anchorpoint, however, is adopting a prudent approach to its broader stablecoin launch, as noted by South China Morning Post.

Anchorpoint Aims for Retail Stablecoin Launch by End of 2026

Anchorpoint CEO Dominic Maffei stated at a press conference that the company’s next milestone involves integrating regulated digital money into everyday payments and commercial applications. He also emphasized the goal of bridging traditional payment infrastructure with emerging digital finance trends.

Maffei acknowledged that Anchorpoint’s blockchain-powered financial product must navigate Hong Kong’s stringent stablecoin regulations under the Stablecoins Ordinance (Chapter 656), overseen by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. He stressed the need to establish a long-term, sustainable market before retail deployment, noting that rushing the process would be counterproductive.

Despite the regulatory considerations, Maffei indicated the stablecoin could become available as early as the end of 2026.

Defining Features of Anchorpoint’s Stablecoin

Maffei highlighted that the stablecoin operates on a business-to-business-to-consumer model, fostering an open and inclusive ecosystem where value chain partners can collaborate. He identified cross-border capabilities as a key use case, noting the currency’s 24/7 availability, cost efficiency, scalability, programmability, and interoperability as complementary features.

HKDAP maintains a 1:1 peg to the Hong Kong Dollar, which is regarded as one of the world’s most stable currencies due to its tight trading band against the US dollar and substantial foreign exchange reserves. This makes the stablecoin a reliable asset for both domestic and international transaction settlements.

Data from DeFiLlama indicates a circulating supply of 16.11 million HKDAP, corresponding to a market capitalization of approximately $2.05 million.

HKDAP benefits from Hong Kong’s position as a leading Asian digital asset hub. The Chainalysis 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index identifies the SAR as an emerging regulatory framework driving stablecoin adoption worldwide.
