Andre Russell’s match-winning 62 off 50 balls and a crucial 19th over proved decisive as Los Angeles Knight Riders advanced to the final with a seven-run victory over San Francisco Unicorns in a high-stakes elimination match.arg>arg>C Russell became only the third player in T20 history to reach 600 career matches while delivering a dual threat with bat and ball. His decisive spell in the death overs restricted the Unicorns to 187, falling just short of the target despite a late six from Hassan Khan.arg>arg>arg>The Unicorns started poorly, losing both openers for ducks in the first three deliveries as Sunil Narine struck twice in quick succession. Lhuan-dre Pretorius was caught behind the first ball, and Finn Allen drove straight to cover, leaving San Francisco reeling at 0-2.
Short and Krishnamurthi rebuilt the innings with a brilliant 152-run partnership for the third wicket, pushing their side into the final three overs with 36 required. However, the equation shifted when Krishnamurthi fell to Shadley van Schalkwyk, and Russell’s penultimate over eliminated the remaining threat, leaving the Unicorns needing 18 off the last overs.
arg>LAKR’s innings was built on a solid foundation of 96 runs for the second wicket between Russell and Colin Munro, who scored 51 off 44 balls. The middle overs threatened to stall until Nicholas Pooran injected late impetus, accelerating steadily as the required rate climbed.
