Manchester United has finalized a $67 million transfer for Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea, marking the club’s initiative to reinforce its midfield following Casemiro’s contract expiration. The 22-year-old, while not a consistent starter at Chelsea, demonstrated notable contributions with three goals and four assists in 43 appearances. His move to Old Trafford positions him as a key midfield option under manager Michael Carrick.
Santos will benefit from a pivotal role at United, stepping into a void left by Casemiro and anticipating Manuel Ugarte’s departure. His prior Premier League experience with two clubs, combined with Carrick’s emphasis on nurturing young talent, offers a pathway for rapid development. The forward’s transfer includes a contract extending until 2031 with an optional additional year.
“Everything about Manchester United is special. It is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented. As a midfielder, I am really excited to have the opportunity to learn from Michael Carrick, he is the perfect coach to help me take the next step in my career and push to achieve my dreams,” said Santos via the club’s official website.
With only Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount currently in midfield, Santos is expected to play a central role in the 2026-27 season. Carrick’s proactive approach to developing young players, paired with Santos’ established Premier League adaptability, underscores the strategic significance of this signing.
