Andy Burrows Announces Solo Album ‘Map Of The World’ With Lead Single ‘Nothing Matters Anyway’

Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows has announced his new solo album, Map Of The World, and shared its lead single, “Nothing Matters Anyway”.

Set for release on January 29, 2027 via his own Free Pass Records, the record marks Burrows’ first solo album in seven years.

Written entirely by Burrows and recorded predominantly at his home studio in Gloucestershire, Map Of The World features contributions from a stellar cast of musicians, including Editors frontman Tom Smith, Manic Street Preachers’ Nicky Wire, We Are Scientists’ Keith Murray, Burrows’ younger brother Ben, and his daughter Joni.

The first preview of the album arrives as “Nothing Matters Anyway”, a short, bombastic track featuring Murray on guitar, driven by bold, ’70s-inspired instrumentation and layered vocal harmonies.

Explaining the motivation behind the track, Burrows said: “It’s supposed to be freeing, not negative. We spend so much time caring about what people think, especially with phones and social media. And then you realise: no one gives a shit!”

The album title originates from a lyric included in a collection of words given to Burrows by Nicky Wire, written out in gold lettering. The Manics bassist also contributes to the finished record.

The album will include “Seriously”, which reunites Burrows with Editors singer Tom Smith. The duo has previously released two albums under the Smith & Burrows name, beginning with the 2011 festive release Funny Looking Angels, followed by 2021’s Only Smith & Burrows Is Good Enough.

Map Of The World follows Burrows’ 2019 collaboration with author Matt Haig, Reasons To Stay Alive.

Speaking to NME ahead of that release, Burrows noted that working with Haig allowed him to explore themes of mental health while maintaining a sense of “hope and optimism.”

“There is a lot of hope and optimism in his words, without being cheesy,” he explained. “There’s an acceptance of anxiety, whether within ourselves or as a result of what’s around us – I think we all go through that.”

Beyond his solo endeavors, Burrows has continued to work extensively on film and television projects. He co-wrote the score for The Snowman And The Snowdog with Ilan Eshkeri, and his long-running collaboration with Ricky Gervais has produced music for David Brent: Life On The Road, After Life, and the Netflix series Alley Cats.

Meanwhile, Burrows remains an active member of Razorlight, following the band’s classic lineup reunion in 2021. The group released Planet Nowhere in 2024, marking their first album together since 2008’s Slipway Fires.

Earlier this year, Razorlight also announced a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their self-titled second album.
