Andy Murray and Jack Draper are reuniting for the Mubadala DC Open after the 24-year-old withdrew from Wimbledon due to a left arm injury. This marks Murray’s return to coaching after Draper split from former coach Jamie Delgado in May.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, confirmed the temporary arrangement in an interview with The Sun, stating it would last only “a few weeks” without any long-term commitment beyond Wimbledon. His conditions included prioritizing family obligations, such as school drop-offs, over extended coaching duties.

Draper, who has dropped to world No. 147 after skipping most tournaments this season due to persistent arm injuries, plans to return to competition at this week’s event. He was seen training alongside Murray at the William HG FitzGerald Tennis Center, executing left-arm strokes while Murray observed from the court edges. The 2023 Wimbledon semifinalist aims to regain form after recent setbacks, including a second-round US Open withdrawal last year and absences from the Australian and French Opens.

Draper emphasized Murray’s enduring support in interviews, calling him a “great inspiration.” He referenced their prior collaboration during Murray’s career finale, highlighting the mutual respect that solidified their partnership. “This arrangement gives me a unique edge as I rebuild my confidence,” Draper noted, stressing that the focus remains on short-term performance goals for the hardcourt season ahead.
