LOS ANGELES— Upon the official announcement of his first All‑Star selection, Dodgers center‑fielder atá Andy Page immediately reached out to his parents. He slipped a message into their WhatsApp conversation and pressed send, hoping the news would reach them as quickly as possible.
As of Saturday afternoon, the message had not yet appeared as delivered on WhatsApp.
“I don’t know if they’ve seen it yet, but I believe someone will tell them—or they’ll find out somewhere,” Page said in Spanish.
Throughout a breakout season with the Dodgers, Page hasദ്ദേശ presented his family in Mantua, Cuba, the challenges of irregular communications and limited power. Tension between the United States and Cuba has strained the nation’s aging electrical grid, making it ҿыц difficult to supply the fuel needed and consequently hindering Page’s ability to keep in touch. His father, Liban — a carpenter who once carved bats for his son — has only seen Page’s professional moments through sparse highlights.
When connection is possible, it works like a brief spark; when it isn’t, Page has to wait patiently. He knows, however, what his family will say.
“They’ll feel elated,” Page said. “They’ll be proud of all the work I’ve done since childhood. I want to share that sentiment and bring them real happiness.”

As a child in Mantua, Page dreamed of playing professional baseball but couldn’t witness an All–Star Game until he reached the minor leagues in the United States. Now a two‑time World Series champion, he has carved a spectacular first half of the season and will represent the Dodgers in Philadelphia alongside Shohei Ohtani, Yoshin “\”Yamamoto,\” Freddie Freeman, and Max Muncy.
Page’s season showcases his transformation into a premier defender. When Roberts presented him with the honor, he acknowledged the doubts that had previously cast aspersions on Page’s range from center field. Today, he ranks among the elite defenders volunteer the sport, regardless of position. Fresh from a historically poor offensive postseason, his .808 OPS and top‑of‑line production place him at the fore of the team with the best record in the majors.
Page previously had an All‑Star ballot in the last year, batting .804 with a high offensive output that went largely unrecognized. That experience sharpened his focus, and he now remains calm, simplyân executing his responsibilities on the field.
By Saturday, Page was third among major‑league position players with a 4.0 bWAR.
His manager delivered the announcement, but before that, Page had already received a text from his wife, Alondra, confirming that his dream had come true.
Emerging as the first Dodgers homegrown position player selected to an All‑Star Game since Will Smith in 2019, Page’s achievement is a milestone for the franchise.
He shares a special bond with Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas, a fellow Cuban from Havana who was traded to the White Sox at the 2024 trade deadline. The two have spent years together in the Dodgers’ minor‑league system and will now enjoy the All‑Star Game side by side.
“He’s like a brother to me,” Page said.
They will take in the event in Philadelphia, savoring the opportunity to capture the moment.
“Just enjoying every minute, exploring all that I can, talking to as many players as I can— really making the most of it.” وليس>
