Anthropic is reinstating access to its two most advanced AI models following the removal of U.S. export controls that had compelled their temporary withdrawal last month.
The company announced that restrictions on Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 were lifted on June 30. Fable 5 will become available worldwide starting July 1 across all Anthropic platforms, whereas Mythos 5 — sharing the same core architecture but with reduced safety safeguards — is being rolled back to selected U.S. partners after receiving governmental clearance on June 26.
The restrictions were first imposed on June 12, when the government enacted export‑control rules that limit foreign nationals’ access to certain technologies, affecting both models.
Since the order took effect immediately and Anthropic lacked a real‑time method to verify users’ nationalities, the company opted to suspend access globally to avoid violating the regulation.
The action was prompted by a cybersecurity disclosure from Amazon researchers, who uncovered a jailbreak technique that could circumvent Fable 5’s safeguards, enabling the model to detect software flaws and, in one instance, generate code illustrating how such a vulnerability might be exploited.
