President Donald Trump said early Tuesday that the pilots of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter that crashed near the Strait of Hormuz were unharmed.
Speaking on the runway at John F. Kennedy International Airport before returning to Washington, D.C., Trump added that no one was injured.
The administration said it would release a full report later on Tuesday, he added.
The New York Times reported late Monday that a U.S. Army Apache attack helicopter went down near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, and its two crew members were rescued safely, according to individuals briefed on the incident.
It was not immediately clear whether the Apache was shot down by Iranian fire, suffered a mechanical failure, or encountered another issue, the report noted.
The U.S. Department of State and U.S. Central Command did not promptly respond to inquiries from Reuters.
