If you’re traveling to Austin, Texas, for next week’s Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, you’ll want to explore the city’s attractions—starting with its renowned barbecue. Apple is enhancing the Texas capital’s mapping experience by rolling out its Detailed City Experience feature in Apple Maps, which now includes the Circuit of the Americas, the venue that hosts the race each year.
Apple has enriched the Austin map with detailed 3D renderings of landmarks such as the Paramount Theatre, Sixth Street, the Texas State Capitol, and Terry Black’s BBQ, both day and night. Navigation upgrades also show lane markings—including bus and bike lanes—and provide more precise elevation data.
The Circuit of the Americas layout highlights each turn, presents 3D models of the grandstands and pit building, and marks entry points. Additional visual touches include the stars‑and‑stripes pattern in the runoff areas. (Note: the World’s Largest Cowboy Hat, still under construction for the event, is not yet depicted.)
As the official U.S. broadcaster of Formula 1 on Apple TV, Apple previously introduced the Detailed City Experience to Monaco—home of one of the sport’s most iconic races and residence of several top drivers—and to Melbourne’s Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.
Beyond visual enhancements, the Apple Maps app on iPhone serves as a practical tool for directions and discovering points of interest.
For race attendees, the app can route you to COTA, indicate temporary road closures or detours, and direct you to your seated section as well as nearby amenities such as restrooms and first‑aid stations.
While the Grand Prix draws many visitors to Austin, the city offers plenty more to explore. For the race weekend and throughout the year, Apple has launched a curated guide created by country‑music singer‑songwriter Dylan Gossett. The guide features the racetrack—where Gossett once worked—his favorite bar, the Armadillo Den, and his preferred guitar shop, Moon Music Pro.
These Austin improvements to Apple Maps are now available on Apple devices and via the web.
