KARACHI: During ongoing restoration efforts at the historic Lea Market in the old city area, two statues were unearthed on Friday. Officials believe this find represents a significant archaeological discovery made during the site’s current renovation project.
The artifacts were discovered while workers were performing excavation as part of a beautification and renovation initiative led by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab stated that archaeological experts will examine the statues to establish their age and historical importance. Under his direction, the artifacts have been relocated to a secure facility to ensure their preservation.
In light of this discovery, officials have indicated that all subsequent excavation work in the area will proceed with extreme caution.
