A US$844 million deep‑water port project in southern Peru has attracted interest from several foreign investors, including Chinese firms, the regional governor announced on Monday as the government begins promoting the initiative internationally.
Governor Rohel Sanchez of Arequipa said several companies have expressed interest, noting that investors from the United States, China, and India are actively engaged. The statement followed the signing of an agreement with the state investment agency Proinversion.
Additional interest has come from firms in Turkey and the Netherlands, as well as South Korean investors focused on technology for a planned logistics park adjacent to the terminal, he added.
Proinversion President Luis del Carpio indicated that the operator Corio is expected to manage general cargo and containers, with potential capacity for exporting the region’s copper to Asian markets.
