On October 9 2026, the Goa Cricket Association unveiled its 16‑player squad for the 2026‑27 Ranji Trophy, appointing Abhinav Tejrana as captain. The standout aspect of the selection is the exclusion of Arjun Tendulkar, who has represented Goa since the 2022‑23 season.
The 27‑year‑old, son of legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, recently reached the milestone of 50 first‑class wickets for Goa. His omission comes after he also sat out Goa’s Oman tour; his most recent appearance for the state was in the 2025‑26 Ranji Trophy match against Kerala at Porvorim, and he has previously played for Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Goa will launch their 2026‑27 Ranji Trophy campaign against Baroda in Elite Group A on October 11 2026 at the Panaji venue. The 92nd edition of the competition is scheduled to run from October 11 2026 through March 3 2027.
Who will lead and support Goa’s coaching setup for the 2026-27 season?
The Goa Cricket Association has also confirmed the back‑room staff for the upcoming season, complementing the playing roster. The management team comprises seasoned coaches and administrators, ensuring a well‑organized structure ahead of the opening clash with Baroda.
“The side will be led by head coach Dinesh Mongia, assisted by bowling coach Krishna Rao, Senior Men’s Director of Coaching and Cricket Operations Prakash Mayenkar, and manager Anil Joglekar,” according to an Instagram post cited by NDTV Sports.
“Goa Cricket Association president Mahesh Desai, secretary Tulshidas Shetye and the full Managing Committee offered their best wishes to the squad for the forthcoming Ranji Trophy, expressing confidence in the team’s success as it prepares to fly Goa’s flag on the domestic circuit,” the post continued.
Why is Arjun Tendulkar’s omission significant for Goa cricket?
Arjun Tendulkar has been a fixture in Goa’s domestic set‑up since he joined ahead of the 2022‑23 Ranji Trophy. His recent achievement of 50 first‑class wickets for the state highlighted his value to the bowling attack across those seasons.
His exclusion from the 2026‑27 roster is noteworthy considering that milestone, especially after he also missed Goa’s Oman tour. The selection committee has not disclosed a reason for leaving him out, and no injury has been cited as the cause.
