CARACHI: Two armed individuals suspected of orchestrating vehicle-based theft attempts were killed by local residents during separate incidents across Gulzar-i-Hijri and Cattle Colony districts Sunday, according to official reports.
Investigating officer Inam Husain Junejo verified that four armed suspects surrounded a private residence near County Garden after abducting livestock from the property. When approaching the home, one suspect was restrained by the property owner, prompting deadly resistance from accomplices positioned in a white sedan. The citizen activated their legally held firearm in response to armed threats, resulting in immediate neutralization of one assailant. Autopsy reports revealed the deceased, identified as 28-year-old Asif Abbas with prior convictions for attempted robbery at Yousuf Plaza, succumbed to gunshot wounds at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital before transfer to judicial authorities.
In an unrelated operation Sunday evening, security personnel fatally wounded an armed individual attempting vehicle theft in Cattle Colony under Sukkan police jurisdiction. The 32-year-old suspect, whose identity remains pending verification, was apprehended mid-attack but later expired at the scene. The incident occurred within 45 minutes of the first reported shooting and shares similar forensic evidence per preliminary ballistics analysis.
Additionally, a separate criminal fatality emerged in Surjani Town’s Bilal Masjid area involving a 25-year-old man, Jawed Hanif, who sustained fatal stab wounds during interpersonal conflict. While unrelated to robbery investigations, this incident highlights escalating violence patterns across Karachi’s residential zones.
The trio of violent events occurred within a three-hour window, prompting recent appeals for stricter firearm registration compliance amid rising spontaneous civilian defense operations. Police have maintained detailed ballistics matching procedures between the two shooting cases, pending further forensic correlation.
All incidents under investigation by multiple police units under provincial Counter-Terrorism Department protocols. Victims were transported to Karachi’s Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for compulsory autopsies. Full forensic reports remain pending publication.
