Swedish police shot an armed man outside the Royal Palace in central Stockholm on Tuesday evening following reports of a disruptive individual carrying a weapon.
According to Stockholm police spokeswoman Susanna Rinaldo, officers responding to the incident opened fire on the man. The individual was hit and transported to hospital, where his injuries were assessed as serious but not life-threatening.
Rinaldo initially declined to specify the type of weapon involved, while confirming that the police operation was ongoing and that there was no danger to the public.
Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that the man approached palace guards armed with a knife and requested to be shot.
In a subsequent update, police confirmed they had launched an investigation into aggravated threats against a public official and an aggravated knife offense, though no additional details were provided.
