Arsenal have confirmed they will appeal Max Dowman’s sending-off from Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Fleetwood.
The 16-year-old midfielder received a straight red card in the 85th minute after reacting to a heavy challenge from Fleetwood’s Harrison Neal.
Although Dowman did not fully extend his leg, his foot made contact with Neal during the incident.
The match ended 1-1, with Fleetwood advancing after winning 5-3 in the penalty shootout.
This marks Dowman’s second red card this month, following his sending-off while representing England’s Under-19s.
As Dowman departed the pitch, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly gave him a scathing look and made an angry remark.
