Israeli authorities detained Ashraf al-Aawar, the Palestinian minister for Jerusalem affairs, on Wednesday during a family gathering near Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem Governorate confirmed the arrest, as reported by Anadolu.
In a statement, the governorate noted that al-Aawar was attending a mourning gathering for his family in the Silwan neighborhood at the time of his detention.
No additional details were provided regarding the circumstances of the arrest.
This incident follows a previous detention of al-Aawar by Israeli authorities from his home in Silwan just one week earlier.
During that prior event, he was held for several hours before being released without any stated reason.
Furthermore, last year, Israeli authorities banned al-Aawar from entering the occupied West Bank for six months, a restriction that was subsequently extended.
