According to a new report released at the Jockey Club forum, philanthropic giving across nine Asian jurisdictions is expected to reach US$1.5 trillion within the next decade. The report also highlights that corporate contributions play a more significant role in Hong Kong compared to many other regional peers. Additionally, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust disclosed that its contributions equated to approximately 1.8 per cent of the city’s GDP during the 2024-25 financial year.
The Commission on Asian Philanthropy unveiled its interim report on Monday, coinciding with the Jockey Club Charities Trust’s separate findings. Both reports were presented during the inaugural day of the Jockey Club’s PBC (Philanthropy for Better Cities) Forum 2026, which convened philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, and policymakers in Hong Kong.
At the opening ceremony, Jockey Club chairman Martin Liao Cheung-kong emphasized that the forum provided Hong Kong an opportunity to “showcase its credentials” as a global financial and philanthropic hub, reinforcing its role as a bridge connecting Eastern and Western initiatives.
“We are gathering at a critical time,” Liao stated. “Philanthropy has become increasingly vital as governments alone cannot address the world’s most complex challenges.” He further noted, “Today, communities, businesses, and civil society are collectively confronting multifaceted social issues, demographic transformations, technological disruptions, and the urgent demands of climate change.”
