Aston Villa Part Ways with Natalia Arroyo Following Winless WSL Opening

Aston Villa have dismissed head coach Natalia Arroyo after a disappointing start to the Women’s Super League campaign left the club without a victory through four matches.

The decision follows Sunday’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, a result that saw Villa drop to the bottom of the table with two draws and two losses. The club confirmed the news on Tuesday morning, having informed the Spanish coach of their decision the previous evening.

Arroyo, who arrived at Villa Park in January 2025, still had two years remaining on her contract. She initially steadied the side during a relegation battle last season, but the team struggled for consistency despite significant summer investment. Pressure had mounted for an improved showing in the 2026-27 campaign, yet defensive frailties and a lack of cohesion out of possession persisted, culminating in the heavy loss to Spurs.

Arroyo becomes the first managerial casualty of the WSL season, following the voluntary departures of Marc Skinner at Manchester United and Dario Vidosic at Brighton earlier in the year.

Women’s technical advisor Brian Sorensen, the former Everton manager, has been installed as interim head coach. He will take charge of the squad immediately as they prepare for a Women’s League Cup fixture against Newcastle United on Wednesday evening (19:30 BST).
