A massive fire erupted at a Bangkok pub in the early hours of Monday, resulting in at least 27 fatalities before firefighters contained the blaze, according to officials.
Video footage posted by first responders captures the intense fire engulfing the establishment in northern Bangkok. Local outlets reported the venue as Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, noted by Sky News as a popular local spot.
Individuals were observed attempting to escape the building as dense black smoke rose into the sky. Rescuers indicated the incident was reported at approximately midnight.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters at the scene that 27 people died and that several of the injured have been taken to the hospital. He said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Anutin stated that a musician performing at the venue reported seeing smoke emanating from a circuit breaker near the stage before the power failed, followed by an explosion and rapid filling of thick smoke.
Anutin added that many of the victims were discovered in the restrooms and the rear area of the pub.
