At least five people have been killed and more than a dozen injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine over the last 24 hours.
Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on Tuesday afternoon that at least 12 people had been injured in strikes on the capital since morning, with one critically wounded person later succumbing to injuries in hospital.
Kyiv police said warehouses, a business centre and a fast‑food restaurant were damaged in the city’s attacks. Ukrainian media identified the restaurant as a McDonald’s.
In Kherson, a 74‑year‑old woman was killed by a Russian drone strike, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, who announced the death on Telegram.
Two men, aged 38 and 60, were wounded in a separate drone attack on the Kherson region on Tuesday morning, local authorities reported.
In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, acting military administrator Mykhailo Semkin said early on Tuesday that an attack targeting the power grid killed a man and injured a woman.
Authorities also confirmed that two people were killed and one injured in strikes on Sloviansk, located in the eastern Donetsk Oblast.
Russia launched 200 drones at Ukraine overnight, with Ukrainian forces saying 187 were intercepted.
Russian oil refinery struck
The Ukrainian military reported strikes on Russia’s Syzran oil refinery and on the Atlant Aero facility in Taganrog, a plant that specialises in unmanned aerial vehicles and components.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the Syzran refinery’s primary crude‑oil distillation unit and tank farm were hit in an operation carried out by Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces, including its deep‑strike units.
Ukraine launches counteroffensive
A Ukrainian unit’s commander announced a counteroffensive against Russian forces near the eastern city of Lyman. Lyman remains one of the few towns in Donetsk Oblast not yet occupied by Russia since the full‑scale invasion began in February 2022, although Russian troops have been trying to encircle it for months.
Military analysts say that taking Lyman could enable Russia to advance toward the Ukrainian strongholds of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. Ukrainian 3rd Army Corps commander Andrii Biletskyi posted a video on Telegram stating that the unit had launched an “offensive operation” and had cleared roughly 75 sq km of territory.
