Atalanta will be without defender Odilon Kossounou for a minimum of one month following a diagnosis of a significant injury to the femoral biceps.

The Ivorian centre-back was initially sidelined for Wednesday’s 2-0 Serie A loss to Juventus after picking up the issue during a training session.

However, the full severity of the damage was only revealed following comprehensive medical evaluations conducted later that day.

An official club statement confirmed that Kossounou is suffering from a medium-to-high grade tear of the femoral biceps in his left thigh.

Given the typical recovery timeline for this type of injury, the Bergamo club will likely not see the defender return in time for their upcoming matches, even accounting for the international break.

The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international had featured in four Serie A matches this season, along with both legs of the Conference League playoff rounds.

This represents a significant setback for Atalanta, who are already missing defender Isak Hien and forward Kamaldeen Sulemana.

The team had also endured three consecutive Serie A defeats under manager Maurizio Sarri prior to the international break.
