The Atlanta Hawks have hired longtime NBA journalist Tim Bontemps as a strategic adviser to Onsi Saleh, the franchise’s president of basketball operations. Saleh assumed the lead role in May after serving as general manager.

Bontemps, 41, brings extensive league coverage experience to the front office. He most recently co-hosted “The Hoop Collective” podcast and has reported on the NBA since 2012 for outlets including ESPN, The Washington Post, and the New York Post.

The appointment marks the second notable transition of a prominent basketball writer into an NBA executive role this cycle. Earlier, the Dallas Mavericks named former ESPN draft analyst Mike Schmitz, 36, as general manager under new team president Masai Ujiri. Schmitz, a former Arizona player, built his scouting background through roles at DraftExpress, Yahoo Sports, and as assistant general manager of the Portland Trail Blazers.
