AT&T Stadium Deploys Curtains to Mitigate Sunlight During Japan vs. Sweden Match

While Jerry Jones prioritizes the aesthetic impact of natural sunlight within AT&T Stadium for NFL games, he was willing to compromise that visual effect to facilitate international soccer.

According to the Associated Press, black curtains were deployed at AT&T Stadium to obstruct sunlight during Thursday’s match between Japan and Sweden. This fixture marked the first time sunlight entered through the facility’s western glass windows during gameplay.

The use of curtains is not expected to be necessary for upcoming matches at the venue. Furthermore, once the NFL season commences, the stadium will return to its standard lighting configuration without the use of curtains.

The decision stems from Jones’s preference for the visual ambiance created by sunbeams within the arena. Unlike most stadiums, which are oriented north-to-south to prevent players from facing the late-afternoon sun, Jones intentionally rotated AT&T Stadium by 90 degrees to utilize sunlight as a dramatic enhancement for football broadcasts.
