The aircraft, a private flight operated by NetJets traveling from San José del Cabo, Mexico, to Austin, Texas, went down near Laredo around 10 p.m. local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Five additional passengers and crew members, along with a motorist whose vehicle was struck, were hospitalized, and five police officers responded to the scene.
Capital Factory verified Baer’s death to the Austin American-Statesman, and President Bryan Chambers described him as “a fearless leader, a brilliant partner, and a dear friend to so many of us.”
The firm, which invests in early-stage robotics, bioscience, aerospace and other technology companies, pledged to continue its mission of supporting unstoppable founders in Baer’s honor.
