Australia has announced its squad for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence in June in England, which will mark Lucy Hamilton’s debut in the tournament. The left-arm seamer secured her place over Darcie Brown after demonstrating strong performances across all formats recently, including her ODI and Test debuts against India in early March, and her T20I debut against the West Indies. Hamilton is one of seven fast-bowling options, joining Megan Schutt, Kim Garth, and all-rounders Annabel Sutherland, Tahlia McGrath, Ellyse Perry, and Nicola Carey. This tournament will be Nicola Carey’s first T20 World Cup appearance since 2020, while Ellyse Perry is set to play in her tenth consecutive tournament, having participated in every edition since 2009.
National selector Shawn Flegler stated that Darcie Brown was “unlucky to miss out,” but the decision was based on anticipated conditions and the team’s overall composition. He further explained that with at least six right-arm pace options available and the expectation that raw pace might be less effective, the selectors chose Lucy Hamilton for her distinct contribution as a left-arm quick.
The World Cup represents the first major assignment for Sophie Molineux as Australia’s all-format captain, a role she assumed following Alyssa Healy’s retirement in March. Molineux is one of four spinners in the squad, alongside Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham, and Alana King, the latter having impressed with five wickets in three games during the T20 series against the West Indies. Additionally, big-hitting batter Grace Harris returns to the squad after missing the Caribbean series. Flegler expressed confidence in Molineux, noting, “Sophie has already made her mark as captain and built a strong connection with the group over the last couple of tours, so we’re looking forward to seeing what this side can achieve under her leadership.”
The 15-member squad features Beth Mooney as the sole designated wicketkeeper, with Tahlia Wilson included as a travelling reserve wicketkeeper. Australia has been drawn into Group A alongside Bangladesh, India, Netherlands, Pakistan, and South Africa, and will begin their campaign on June 13 with a highly anticipated match against South Africa.
