The B.C. Lions have won seven of their past eight games, but if they slow their roll it could prove costly, considering the snarled traffic in the CFL West Division standings.
With four games left in their regular season, the Lions (8-6) visit the Toronto Argonauts (9-6) Saturday afternoon (12 p.m. TSN/CTV) sitting in second place in the West. If the post-season started today, they’d host the West Division semifinals.

Where it turns tricky is that there’s a mere two points separating B.C. and the fifth-place Calgary Stampeders (7-8), with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (8-6) and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-7) tucked in between. One of those four teams will be in a crossover playoff with the East Division, while one will miss the post-season outright.
The Stampeders have played an extra game compared to the rest, so that gives the Lions, Roughriders and Blue Bombers an edge. The Edmonton Elks (11-4) are in first place, six points up on B.C., although the Lions have a game in hand.
The West became a five-team division again in 2014 when the Ottawa Redblacks joined the league and the Blue Bombers came back from the East.
In 2018, there were six points separating second and fifth place at season’s end. Last season, it was eight points between those spots.
We’ll see just where this one ends up.
After Toronto, B.C. is home to Ottawa (0-14), at Calgary, then home to Winnipeg. The Blue Bombers are at the Montreal Alouettes (11-3) Saturday, then home to Calgary, at Edmonton and at B.C., and the Roughriders host Calgary Friday, followed by a home-and-home with Montreal before finishing off hosting Edmonton.
