SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Musicians and a DJ were among the ten fatalities in a Bahamian plane crash, the Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union announced Saturday, a day after the tragedy.
The incident led authorities to temporarily suspend Flamingo Air operations. The crash occurred near North Andros, just west of Nassau, the nation’s capital.
“Their passion, dedication, and artistry touched countless lives and enriched the cultural fabric of the Bahamas,” the union added.
The aircraft had taken off from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, bound for San Andros, when it went down, according to the Bahamian Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority.
The Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation stated that the suspension of Flamingo Air’s air operator certificate is a precautionary step while investigators determine the crash’s cause, noting that the action follows two safety incidents that occurred on Friday.
During the press conference, Minister JoBeth Coleby‑Davis explained that the earlier Friday incident also involved a Flamingo Air aircraft. She said the plane was heading to Mayaguana when the pilot reported a problem and returned to Nassau; after landing and deplaning, the aircraft caught fire. That event is likewise under investigation.
